From a shared collection to a foundation
Chapter 01
The public collection
Ernst and Hildy Beyeler’s collection became the foundation of a museum in Riehen, which opened in 1997. Their names remain attached to a continuing encounter with modern and contemporary art.
Chapter 02
A place to return
A permanent institution gives collecting a different rhythm. Visitors can come back; exhibitions can reconsider familiar works; new juxtapositions can shift the way a collection is read.
Chapter 03
The shared name
The story is presented here as a joint collecting legacy. The foundation’s collection record offers the primary route into its holdings, while its exhibition archive shows how that legacy is repeatedly interpreted for the public.
